Swimming with whale sharks involves snorkeling near the areas where they appear—typically around the fishermen's floating platforms (*bagan*) in Saleh Bay, Sumbawa. Despite their massive size, whale sharks are known to be docile and safe to observe.

Before entering the water, a guide will usually provide a safety briefing. Once a whale shark is spotted at the surface, tourists can slowly enter the water equipped with a mask, snorkel, and flotation device.
